We teach our students dropshipping whether it's with Amazon, Shopify or eBay. Everything is taught step by step. However, here are some great tips when it comes to dropshipping if you're new at it.
1. FIND THE RIGHT SUPPLIER FOR YOUR PRODUCTS.
Any products that you want to sell, make sure you're getting them from a reputable supplier. While you're looking for a good supplier that works for you, you can also look at the prices that have a lower cost. Lower cost on the item you want to sell equals higher profit margins for yourself.
2. AVOID UNDER-PRICING YOUR PRODUCTS.
When customers are shopping around, they want to purchase items that have a great perceived value. By pricing your items at a good value, you will attract customers to your business. If you have under-priced items, customers may think that item isn't of great value or "cheap".
3. CREATE AN AMAZING OFFER.
Customers love receiving some type of offer. When creating an offer, it doesn't need to be something completely outrageous. It can be something as simple as $5 off coupon or a 20% off coupon. This will help attract customers to your business versus someone else who doesn't have an awesome offer.
4. ORDER PRODUCT SAMPLES.
It's always a great idea to order a sample of an item you want to potentially sell, especially if you're uncertain about it. You don't want to sell an item to your customers that you wouldn't want to purchase yourself. It also gives you an idea what to price your item too.
5. MONITOR YOUR COMPETITORS.
There's absolutely nothing wrong to see what your competitors are doing. You can check out what they're selling, their pricing, and even if they have any promotions going on. Restaurants and retailers do it all the time, so it's definitely okay for eCommerce businesses to do the same.
6. USE A PROPER E-COMMERCE PLATFORM FOR YOUR STORE.
Depending what you'd like to do, and what you're selling you want to make sure you're using the proper platform. You want to make it simple for your customers to be able to navigate buying products.
7. MAKE SHIPPING TIMES VERY CLEAR.
This is extremely important for your business. You have to take into consideration your suppliers handling and shipping times before you start stating your shipping times. Both need to be cohesive. If you state your shipping time, and your supplier has a different shipping time (e.g. supplier is 5-7 business days, and yours is 3-5 business days) this can cause mistrust with your customers, and your business can come across as unreliable, or you'll be dealing with customer service. Always double check- even triple check!
8. GO FOR MULTIPLE PAYMENT OPTIONS.
Having multiple options for payment, you'll be able to cater to a lot more customers. Not every customer will have a credit card and not every customer will have PayPal.
9. CREATE A FAQ PAGE.
This is a great feature to have. Having this easily accessible for your customers can cut down on your customer service when it comes to standard FAQs such as returns, shipping, etc.
10. SEO IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS.
When creating Amazon listings from scratch, or building brands on Amazon - SEO (keywords/optimized copy & content) is vital to long term ranking and success of each product you list. SEO for Shopify would have meta tags and descriptions for your pages and products get you found on Google. Blogs will get you found on Google. Videos in your blogs will get you found even easier and will build tons of trust. SEO is crazy important- the most important part of eBay SEO is keywording. The keywords you use in your listings is what people will search for and how they will find your products. The best way to start is low competition, high search volume keywords (this also works for Amazon too).
These are all simple yet efficient tips to get your Shopify business set up. With Amazon you don't need to do most of the tips above, since a lot is already in place for you.
